Winning Students visit Stateside Foods

We were pleased to welcome some lucky Year 7 and 8 students from Westhoughton High School to Stateside Foods this week. During the Autumn and Spring term, we visited Westhoughton High School to deliver two of our ‘Skills for Success’ sessions to students.

One of our key community goals is to increase awareness of Stateside Foods and the food and drink manufacturing industry and to raise the career aspirations of local young people.

We place great importance on equipping students in our community with the skills to recognise and celebrate their own talents, to identify opportunities available to them and to fulfil their potential in their chosen career, whatever that may be- and our ‘Skills for Success’ programme supports us in delivering these goals.

Year 7 and 8 students engaged in the workshops which helped them to develop skills that potential employers look for such as: communication, team work and resilience through a STEM ‘Conveyor Belt’ activity and a Maths ‘Costings Challenge’. The winners of these challenges were invited to come and see us back at Stateside Foods this week.

The winning 80 students took part in ‘An audience with…’ some of our Chartered Management and Engineering Apprentices. They were interviewed about their roles within the business, what an apprenticeship is and gave their top tips of advice to the groups for ‘surviving’ and getting the most from their high school years. After the session, they were treated to a pizza lunch which they thoroughly enjoyed!
