We have an opening within our NPD Department for a Packaging Manager.

Purpose of the Role:

As a Packaging Manager reporting to our Business Product Manager, your key responsibility will be to implement and sustain new industrialised packaging and display solutions that satisfy consumer, customer and supply chain requirements, unlocking new markets and creating new efficient processes.


Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the packaging for two strategic partners.
  • Creating, developing and implementing industrialised packaging solutions ensuring robust risk management and delivery of consumer/customer/factory requirements.
  • Delivering robust specifications for materials and machinery following formal risk management process at best total costs.
  • Strongly influencing and shaping the course of packaging development projects, whilst providing high quality formal and informal communication on project progress to different business forums.
  • Improving factory efficiency and quality via agreed projects on packaging, incorporating the benefits of a strong factory relationship.
  • Being the prime contact with packaging suppliers and customers on technical matters, ensuring these matters are dealt with in an ethical and professional manner (face of Stateside Foods) whilst developing the relationship and making Stateside Foods the preferred client for innovation
  • Train and support packaging champions for each site Wingates & Firebird
  • Support/Lead customer change projects, considering business requirements/capabilities
  • Liaise with all relevant departments on new equipment installations
  • Support the implementation of continuous improvement programmes, this includes programs put in place to improve the supply base. Visiting and hosting the supplier is important during the implementation process.
  • Manage and support supplier trials and transit tests in conjunction with NPD as applicable
  • Support QA & manufacturing in problem solving
  • Ensure all packaging procedures/specifications are accurate and applied consistently across the business
  • Work closely with all departments on the sourcing of packaging, artwork and new designs
  • Identify efficiency and quality improvement opportunities around the packaging function

Skills and Experience required:

  • Experience in general packaging role
  • Experience of customer/supplier interface
  • Experience of dealing with difficult and sensitive situations in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Up to date knowledge of packaging legislation
  • Knowledge of packaging types and formats
  • Knowledge working within a factory environment
  • The ability to look at the overall business process
  • Understanding of a commercial environment
  • Experience in the chilled food sector preferable.
  • Graduate in Design or similar relevant scientific or technology related discipline would be advantageous
