We have an opportunity for a Deputy Factory Manager within our Firebird Factory on a fixed term contract for a minimum period of 12 months with the possibility of an extension.
Purpose of the Role:
Reporting to the Factory Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, organising and directing of all Manufacturing and Hygiene operations across the site, ensuring the most effective return on assets with no detriment to the operation.
Key responsibilities:
- Acting as a role model for all agreed people management practices, managing, guiding and coaching direct reports whilst demonstrating best practice at all times
- Building effective relationships with Management teams across the piece
- Developing employee engagement across the business and creating an Employer of Choice culture
- Responsibility for streamlining and continually improving manufacturing and hygiene processes
- Advising and coaching Managers to encourage an understanding and ownership of the management of team members
- Participating in talent management reviews and succession planning activities
- Initiate plans and processes which minimise manufacturing costs through effective utilisation of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while insuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations
- Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout assigned departments for problem solving and cost reduction, both on a permanent and ad-hoc basis, depending on need
- Encourage use of new techniques and focus on fact based problem solving
- Improve manpower utilisation within existing departments and processes. Schedule stability that allows for maximum return on efficiencies
- Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
- Work to establish management practices throughout assigned areas which include all employees’ positive involvement with opportunity for construction input and action
- Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping/GMP in all areas
- Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest production and production management concepts
- Adhere to the company’s H&S policies and procedures
- Adhere to the company’s Hygiene policies and procedures
Skills and Experience required:
- Demonstrable experience in a high volume production environment
- Demonstrable managerial experience at a senior management level.
- Food manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong leadership skills
- Independent thinking
- Strong organisational and planning abilities
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential
- Ability to be flexible
- Degree qualified/calibre in a related area, engineering or manufacturing.
